
Why Your Bathroom Heater Shouldn’t Feel Like a Stadium Light
Ever turned on a bathroom heater and felt like you were staring directly into the sun? It’s a common problem. Most infrared lamps throw out a ton of heat, but they also blast you with an intense, blinding light and UV rays. If you’ve got a baby in the house, that glare is more than just annoying—it’s harsh on their eyes. We wanted to fix that.
Keeping the heat, losing the glare
The trick was to find a way to keep the warmth without the “blinding” effect. We did this by adding a special coating to the quartz glass. Think of it like a pair of high-tech sunglasses for your heater. The coating blocks the sharp, blue light and UV rays that cause eye strain, but it lets the long-wave infrared heat slide right through. The result? A soft, gentle glow. You still feel that immediate warmth on your skin, but your eyes don’t feel like they’re being attacked. It’s much kinder, especially for the little ones.
Heat vs. Light: The Balancing Act
To get a cold bathroom warm quickly, you need high-wattage filaments. The problem is that when these filaments get hot enough to really push out heat, they usually get incredibly bright. We decoupled the two. By using a specific gas fill and that coated sleeve I mentioned, we managed to keep the heat density high while keeping the brightness low. You get the toastiness you want without the blinding light.
A quick tip for installation
If you’re swapping these into your current setup, they’re a simple drop-in replacement. Just one thing to keep in mind: because of that coating, the glass tube itself can run a bit hotter than a standard clear one to get the same amount of heat into the room. Just double-check that your fixture’s housing can handle the heat so you don’t end up warping any plastic trim.
